Although already packed with narrative threads to tie up from its own trilogy, Fantastic Beasts 3 still needs to explore its compelling Voldemort connection to the original films. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is now set for a spring 2022 release date after several years languishing in development hell as a series of delays ranging from COVID-19 shutdowns to recasting their lead villain halted production. The third film of the Fantastic Beasts series is certainly an ambitious project whose narrative is jam-packed with both new information and Harry Potter callbacks to J.K. Rowling's vast wizarding world.

The sequel directly follows the events of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, in which the spin-off franchise began to connect Newt Scamander's (Eddie Redmayne) burgeoning legend with the events of Harry Potter's narrative arc some sixty years later. Despite a mixed reception, the saga serves to enhance legendary characters such as Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law), making them richer entities as audiences see them in their younger, more conflicted years, fleshing out the Harry Potter canon. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is primed to further these connections, with its narrative set to conclude the epic clash between evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) and Dumbledore's good-aligned allies.
